I am writing to let you know that as the Sheffield area moves from Tier 3 restrictions to the new National Covid measures, we are obliged to follow the new guidance which means that in addition to the bar closures that have been in place, we will now be obliged to close the club completely with effect from Thursday ( November 5th). The Government guidance indicates that this will apply until December 2nd when this will be formally reviewed.
This is hugely disappointing as in recent weeks we had started to see a gradual return to regular usage of the club for bowls, snooker and social events. We must nevertheless play our part in trying to contain the virus in our local communities.
In the interim, as in the previous lockdown, we will do everything possible to secure the viability of the club including reducing non-essential expenditure and claiming external grant support where this is available.
The Committee would like to thank you for your continued support. We would particularly like to thank you all for the support you gave in memory of our former secretary Walt Smith. The turnout at the club for a “Guard of Honour” for the funeral cortege was truly moving and member’s generosity to the collection for St Luke’s was similarly impressive.
I received a lovely message from Phil thanking you all for your support on the day.
Finally, we will keep you appraised of developments during these difficult times and look forward to the time when we can again operate fully.
Eric Ambler, On behalf of the Club Committee.
